MacBook Air M1 (2020) Review: Apple Laptops That Beat Intel Chip Versions of MacBook Air

Last year, Apple released two types of Macbook Air.

The first type, using Intel chips, while the one I discussed here is the one that uses the Apple M1 chip with a standard configuration of 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD.

I don't think there's anything new about the MacBook Air M1.

The exterior look is exactly the same as the 2018 and 2019 MacBook Air versions.

The build quality of this laptop is very good and features the characteristics of a modern, minimalist, and classy Apple design.

This laptop has a webcam layer with a fairly high resolution of HD (720p).

For its own ports, the MacBook Air M1 comes with only two Thunderbolt/USB-C ports and a headset port. So if you use an old USB port, you have to buy a dongle or adapter.

The performance itself is very responsive. For high-resolution 4k video rendering, there is no doubt. I was really amazed by the performance of the M1 chip that far exceeded my previous laptop which cost more.

Battery life

I say this laptop battery is very durable.

This laptop is perfect for those of you who work in the office for a whole day.

Operating System

I last used a MacBook laptop around 2018, and my experience on Mac OS Big Sur has been greatly improved. The look remains familiar, but it's easier and intuitive, faster and more responsive as well.

Keyboard and Trackpad

Are you an uncomfortable person using a butterfly keyboard?

So be happy when using this laptop, because Apple turned out to have perfected.

And the Trackpad on this Mac Book Air is large, responsive, and very smooth surface.

Screens and multimedia

MacBook Air M1's 13-inch retina display with a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels can already display a broad spectrum of colors (DCI-P3 color gamut) like in a MacBook Pro, making it suitable for photo or video editing.

Listening to music or watching YouTube on this laptop feels good because of its sharp and bright screen (up to 400 nits), as well as its excellent speaker sound (probably only losing to the MacBook Pro).

90 percent of the apps I use run seamlessly on the MacBook Air M1, as Apple uses Rosetta 2 technology, which is capable of seamlessly translating program instructions into M1 chips. For example, Microsoft Office 365,  Spotify, Chrome, and ExpressVPN are capable of running without a hitch.

Nevertheless, there are some app vendors who take advantage of this state of circumstances to sell their application versions specifically for the M1. For example, I have Paragon NTFS for Mac to read HDD WIndows.
